Get Outside and Play Week

What is Get Outside and Play Week?

This is a week to celebrate outdoor play in the early years! An opportunity to shine a light on the importance of outdoor play by joining communities, educators and children across the province to get outside and play. The events take place the last week of May. Stay tuned for Get Outside and Play Week 2020!

Thanks to everyone who hosted events in 2019.

How do I get involved?

It's simple! Use this week to jumpstart outdoor play in your child care centre, community or school. It can be a big event or you can simply get outside as often as you can that week with children. In the past communities have hosted loose parts play days in the park, storytime in the park with the bookmobile and a tour to visit a local bee hive! We just want you to get outside, be curious, let the children lead and have fun!

Tell us about your plans! We want to show that outdoor play is gaining momentum in Alberta and by sharing your plans for Get Outside and Play Week, we can add your event to all the others happening in the province. Over the past 2 years, Get Outside and Play Week has seen 113 events in 30 communities across the province.
