Loose parts are open-ended materials that inspire creativity, imagination, problem-solving and most importantly, child-led play. These materials are real things, not expensive toys we need to purchase with our already limited budgets. In this webinar, Veronica and I will be giving examples of how loose parts can support children’s interests in indoor and outdoor environments. For example… Are children interested in ramps? What can this look like indoors? How can you extend this interest into your outdoor space using different materials? You will leave this session with ideas for loose parts and be inspired to create learning experiences that flow between the indoors and outdoors.

This session will also include break-out time to talk in small groups with your colleagues about your experiences with this topic and share inspiration and ideas together.

Audience: Early childhood educators and kindergarten teachers.

A recording of the session will be available for 3 weeks if you are unable to attend the live event.

** This session will include a draw for a $50 gift certificate to the new Outdoor Learning Store!

Christina Pickles Get Outside and Play

Christina Pickles has been connecting people of all ages with the natural world for 20 years in the badlands, forests, streams and streets. Six years ago she was challenged to develop a program to support nature connection and outdoor experiences for young children. Through creating this program, she learned about the importance of play. It was eye-opening for her and she has pivoted her work to put play at the centre of all she does. She believe it is the best way children (and adults) connect with nature, their communities, their bodies and each other.

She live along the banks of the Bow River with my husband and 6 year old daughter.
